Common Questions ABOUT CREMATION
DOES THE CATHOLIC CHURCH PERMIT CREMATION?
Yes. The Vatican has permitted cremation for a number of years. The Church believes
that human remains are sacred, and must be buried on consecrated ground. This
applies to cremated remains.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE A WAKE WITH CREMATION?
Yes. To the Irish, the wake, at which relatives and friends gather to reminisce
and comfort the family, is an important part of the grieving process. You may
choose to have a wake before cremation, or you may hold a memorial service at a
later date.
